And they say that we can’t
We are like napkins they just throw away
But how can we survive with nothing but bare promises.

They say that we don’t need money to live
That arts was our choice and so was starvation
But they consume our soul like carrion eaters at a buffet.

But if we didn’t exist the world would be a dreary place.

They say they don’t want to pay for our art
That it’s too expensive and not worth the cost
But oooh, if we said that to them, they would scream in our face.

They say that we’re many, the choice is infinite
Our art is a product but not an essential need
So that’s why they don’t want to pay us what’s worthwhile.

They say be content with the little we get ,
Enjoyin' scraps like the bones thrown to dogs
But we can’t pay our bills much less nurture the Muses.

They say we should choose a sensible job
Pay back our debts and student loans
Become useful to society
Art is frivolous and a waste of time.

We’re stewards of the world, the creativity in each of us.
We need respect, payment, time, and you to understand.
